Human rights are rights that are inherent to all human beings, regardless of sex, race, religion, nationality, place of residence, ethnic origin, language, or any other status. All humans are equally entitled to human rights without discrimination.
The most basic of human rights include the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression, and the right to work and education.
Human rights are norms of national and international law. At the international level, human rights norms exist because treaties have turned them into law.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a document adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10, 1948 (Human Rights Day). The document sets forth 30 Articles that act as a global road map, protecting the rights of people everywhere.
